Editing
We uploaded all the raw footage on iMovie, which was the editing
software the whole class had agreed we would prefer using over another windows software
because it was more familiar to us. However
we hadn’t used the updated version of iMovie so we had difficulty using it to
begin with which delayed time for editing slightly.
The first thing we did after uploading the raw footage was place each scene in chronological order to what we put on our storyboards. We then placed the production companies at the beginning and added transitions. We used ‘chalkduster’ for the font of the credits because it reflected our film in the way our villain was a child and was from a Victorian era. We had mostly jump cuts for the conversations to reflect reality. For the murder scene we wanted to make the scene look ‘poetic’ so we decided to have that as a black and white filter and also is a clear indication that this was a past incident and not clashing with the present narrative. We also used a slow motion effect on this scene as well which delivered the dismay. For the murder scene we also had a voiceover describing the events. This took longer than expected because of timing issues and we had to alter slightly what was said because my group member kept getting the words muddled but it still creates the same effects.
We also found adding the soundtrack to the footage difficult in terms of timing. Also finding the sound effects for the knife slash and girl scream too was tiresome to find exactly what we had in mind, but this was expected and for this reason and practicality we left this until last. Whilst editing the sound for our film we also had to decrease the sound background noise because it disrupted the clarity of the character’s dialogue.
