Preliminary Task
What was the purpose of the preliminary task?
The preliminary task enabled us to understand the concept of the 180 degree rule and continuity editing. This will also give us the chance to make filming mistakes now with these and to match on action and learn from them for our legit film opening.
What difficulties did you face?
The difficulties we faced were essentially around the fact that we had a lack of Mac facilities resulting in us having to editing on the iPads, which iMovie is less developed. Because of this we had to reshot the conversation scene to make it more efficient for us to edit on the iPads as we had difficulties in match on because of angles, hence the change in continuity with costumes and setting.
How did you plan out the shots?
We made notes on possible locations and asked permission when necessary to use a particular part of the building such as the library. We then made rough storyboards to visualize the idea.
What did you learn about continuity editing?
It is used for an ongoing effect. For the piece to be continuous we had to make sure the ending of each shot cut off at a point where it matched on to the next shot and we could start off from in the next shot.
What did you learn about the demands of the filming sequence?
I learnt that it may take a few takes to get the match on correctly for it to flow as a piece. Also preparation by planning each our shots and storyboarding was a massive aid in helping us coordinate ourselves and the action.
How might the process of completing the preliminary task help with your main task?
The preliminary task will enable us to make rookie mistakes before we film our legit piece we're going to send off for moderating. this also helped us master the 180 degree rule and continuity editing so our film opening will flow and wont lack coherency
